What is Orthopedic Problem

Orthopedic department deals with all the complications, injuries and diseases which harm and affects the Musculoskeletal System of the body. The Orthopedic conditions can damage, harm or injure the muscles, bones, ligaments, nerves, tendons or joints depending on the situation and can also result in surgeries or removal of the affected organ if not treated beyond certain point.

Some General Orthopedic problems

Arthritis, causes joint inflammation resulting in pain, damages joints and lead to loss of joinrt function. There are many types of arthritis, some common among them are gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis

Musculoskeletal cancer, It is development of uncontrolled tumor in musculoskeletal system. Bone cancer or osteosarcoma and cartilage cancer or chondrosarcoma.

Autoimmune Orthopedic diseases, when the immune system of the body unknowingly attacks its own normal healthy cells and tissues of the musculoskeletal system, it results in common autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis etc.

Osteomalacia causes weakening of muscles, bowing and bending of legs, Pain and fracture of bones in adults. Vitamin D deficiency, lack of sunlight are the most common factors of this condition.

Osteomyelitis, A type of infection in the bone.

Osteoporosis, Weak and brittle bones due to gradual loss of bone density with increased risk of fractures.

Treatment depends on the type of the trauma of the patients and degree of injury or damage to the organs. Sometimes the trauma is acute which a sudden injury is while gradual development of complications based on repetitive motion or increased pressure on joints or tendon lead to gradual damage which comes under chronic trauma. Wear and tear of the tissues, joints, ligaments and dryness of fluid cause degenerative changes resulting in Osteoarthritis and Spine problems.

Physiotherapy. Yoga, Muscle Exercise, Practicing and learning body mechanics and posture can deal with some non-serious issues but certain serious conditions require surgeries of following types:

Knee joint being one of the most used joint of the body has more chances of getting injured or damaged due to various factors and may require partial or complete replacement of the knee joint with an artificial one.

In most cases cartilage attached to the knee joint get damaged causing restricted and painful movement sometimes unbearable for the injured person. Bursitis, Obesity or trauma to the knee are some of the common causes for this condition.
